Review
I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book, but I really enjoyed it. There aren’t prompts or exercises in the ‘traditional’ sense of a writing book (there’s another book from the same author for that); instead, it focuses more on the processes behind your writing, getting into the mindset, bringing ideas to the fore, and letting them develop, even before they get anywhere near the page. As somebody who struggles to carve out time every day to write, or even feel like I’m really focusing on my writing enough, the notion of NOT writing every day was a surprisingly welcome one. Personally, the ‘percolation’ section of the book was the one which resonated with me most, but that’s because it’s an element I struggle with, as I say; others will likely connect with other sections more, but I believe every writer would find something of benefit here, to help them get the most out of their writing life. I’m definitely keen to try Room to Write now as well!
