New Year, New Themes…

Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year, and that 2020 has started well for you…

I’ve been busy over the break, and done some planning for this little blog of mine. For a couple of years now, I’ve been thinking about running two new series, covering two of the things I love most: history, and writing. Therefore, from this month, I’ll be writing the following:

  • Castle of the Month
  • Writing Prompt of the Month

Castle of the Month

You might have noticed I love few things more than spending the day pottering around a castle, whether an old favourite or somewhere entirely new to me. Well, I have been thinking about sharing some of my most-loved, and their stories, on the blog, so once a month, I’ll be doing just that.

There’s something very special about walking through doorways, along corridors, or up staircases and knowing just who has walked there before you. I’ve walked in the footsteps of kings, queens, courtiers and commoners, and found every single one of them fascinating. Recently of course, they’ve been the main source of inspiration behind my Kindred Spirits series, but even before then, they were keeping my imagination busy.

It would be great to hear from you, if you’ve visited the ones I mention, or which are your favourites too.

One of my favourite things every month is heading along to North Shields Library to co-host the North Tyneside Writers’ Circle. If you’re a writer in the Tyneside area, then we’d love for you to come along and join us – you can find more about us on Facebook, here. My personal contribution is generally the prompt each session, to get the ink flowing, and give everyone a bit of a burst of creativity to start the session off, and honestly, there is no better pleasure for me than seeing everyone’s pen hitting the paper, and of course, hearing what they come up with when we have a voluntary sharing session at the end of the prompt.

As I enjoy coming up with the prompts, I thought I would share them here on my blog too, so in the months we have had a Circle, I’ll be sharing it the Saturday after we meet, and, as we don’t meet in April, August or December, I’ll come up with something fresh for those months!

If you do follow any of the prompts, and feel like sharing them in the comments section, then it would be lovely to hear from you…
