A few months back, I read and reviewed Owen, by Tony Riches, following the life of Owen Tudor, so I’m thrilled to be part of the blog tour for the following two in the series, Jasper today, and Henry on the 28th May.
Jasper (The Tudor Trilogy #2)
by Tony Riches
Publication Date: March 22, 2016
Preseli Press
eBook & Paperback; 360 Pages
Genre: Historical Fiction
Following the best-selling historical fiction novel OWEN – Book One of The Tudor Trilogy, this is the story, based on actual events, of Owen’s son Jasper Tudor, who changes the history of England forever.
England 1461: The young King Edward of York has taken the country by force from King Henry VI of Lancaster. Sir Jasper Tudor, Earl of Pembroke, flees the massacre of his Welsh army at the Battle of Mortimer’s Cross and plans a rebellion to return his half-brother King Henry to the throne.
When King Henry is imprisoned by Edward in the Tower of London and murdered, Jasper escapes to Brittany with his young nephew, Henry Tudor. Then after the sudden death of King Edward and the mysterious disappearance of his sons, a new king, Edward’s brother Richard III takes the English Throne. With nothing but his wits and charm, Jasper sees his chance to make young Henry Tudor king with a daring and reckless invasion of England.
Set in the often brutal world of fifteenth century England, Wales, Scotland, France, Burgundy and Brittany, during the Wars of the Roses, this fast-paced story is one of courage and adventure, love and belief in the destiny of the Tudors.

Review
Having thoroughly enjoyed the author’s tale of Owen Tudor, I was really looking forward to reading his take on Jasper Tudor, a man who, to me, seems to really only be known for one thing, spending time in exile with the future Henry VII. To get under his skin in a book centred around his life then, sounded interesting. It didn’t disappoint. Jasper is presented as a well-rounded character, and again, reading this period of history from the male perspective, rather than the more frequently-written female perspective, brings a new dimension to things, taking us right to the heart of battle and siege, rather than having these as largely reported events. As I noted previously, as a die-hard Ricardian and Yorkist, reading about ‘treacherous York’ and the ‘upstart Edward’ was a different take for me, but it’s a sign of the quality of the writing that I was almost drawn to the Lancastrian side!
I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a well-researched and well-presented historical fiction, and I cannot wait to read the third in the series, following Henry Tudor, even though I suspect I won’t like the ending!
